Mama Shop

Those who has stayed or who are still staying in older HDB estate would have know the term Mama shop, or in layman, a convenience shop.

These shops are located at the void deck and they sell anything from daily groceries to toys and most importantly tibits.

This mama shop plays an important role in my childhood life. It's a stopover point while waiting for the school bus. And of course they have also earn quite a substantial sum of $$ from me.

Look at the amount of effort spend laying out these sweets and chocolates.

The two Indian uncle who has been running the stalls for more than 30 years. Unfortunately business has not been as good, largely due to the opening of convenience shops such as 7-11, Cheers and the big supermarkets. This is a significant slice of my childhood and it great that it's still around for me to capture!
